Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012 @ 6:30 P.M. Tyra Lokey-Robinson will be our guest at the next Women In God’s Service Ministry (WIGS) event. Tyra and her husband Jerry live in Lawrenceburg, KY. with their two darling daughters Lyrica and Harmony, and their family pet Ruby. Tyra is also the founder of Sign Art Ministries. What is Sign Art? It is a combination of interpretive movement, mime, dance and drama, that is built upon sign language. With her hands, arms, face and body, Tyra expresses the intensity of worship. Tyra began this form of ministry during her years at Murray State University. While helping build a church for deaf people in Puerto Rico with her classmates, she began to think more deeply about those unable to hear the gospel directly. "I thought 'God, they would not be able to know your Word without her hands.” Lokey said, remembering the sign linguist’s translating the sermon during the church’s service. “God, that's what I want.’" After this experience, Tyra resolved to learn sign language; she began to pick up the language at a “miraculous” pace. "It was definitely a touch from God," she said. Since then, Lokey has devoted her life to the ministry and to Christ. Using Hope Community Church in Lawrenceburg as a base, Tyra travels widely, speaking and teaching at churches, conferences, and wherever God leads. She has traveled full time since 2001 and has trained hundreds of teams around the world to share the Gospel through sign art ministry. |
